Encased portraits by Bruce St.John Maher. Since childhood I've been fascinated by 3rd Century AD roman enamel portraits encased in glass. They are frontal portraits of almost photographic realism. Faces from 2,000 years ago look you straight in the eye. Similarities in the few known examples argue for a single source. An irresistable technical challenge! Return to Previous |
